Hello, I'm Donna!

I'm currently a sophomore at Cornell University and I'm passionate about leadership, design, and technology. Outside of class, I enjoy serving as the vice president of Russian Language Club here at Cornell. Recently, I was elected as vice president of my sorority, Phi Sigma Sigma. I also love performing in my group, Hearsay A Cappella.

Work Experience

Mathnasium - Instructor
March 2019 - Present

For the past two years, I've worked part time with K-12 students in private and group settings. Tutoring math has taught me so much about patience, persistence, and communication.

"Donna has been a highly valued member of my team of math instructors for nearly two years. She is an excellent instructor who takes initiative and has recently assisted me as center director at Mathnasium in training some new instructors. Donna is very responsible and professional in executing all duties of her position. I would highly recommend Donna for a position within your organization!"
-Jerry Novit, Mathnasium Center Manager

Private Tutoring - Instructor
April 2019 - September 2019

I worked with students on a self designed curriculum over the summer to prepare them for the following school year. In addition, since I operated independently, I learned to network and advertise in order to find clients.

Upwork - Freelance Graphic Designer
2016 - 2018

During highschool, I created logos, posters, and graphics for small businesses. This taught me how to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. In addition, I learned how to receive specifications for a project and work with an employer to create a product that matches their vision.

Deerfield Bakery - Cashier
May 2017 - September 2017

Along with working at the register, I stocked the bakery and helped customers find items and place custom cake orders. I learned a lot this summer, but mostly how to wake up at 4 am!

Ithaca Parking Stations

The final design
Last semester, in Human Factors and Inclusive Design (DEA 3510), I worked with a group on a semester-long project to redesign the interface of the Ithaca parking pay stations. We practiced every step of the human centered design process, from researching and conducting interviews, to brainstorming and designing, to evaluating qualitatively and quantitatively. Our new design reduced the time it took for users to complete the payment process and increased the clarity of the interface. Speeding up the process of using a pay station will decrease crowding around the machines and accomplish our goal of reducing covid transmission. Increasing the ease of use of the interface made the design more inclusive of older and cognitively impaired populations. At the end of the semester, we presented our research and redesign to the Downtown Ithaca Alliance. They loved our ideas and told us they were excited to work on implementing them!

Thanks to Hannah Bidigare-Curtis, Amina Hasan, Julia Kan, Nicholas He, and Oluwanifemi Oluwadairo for working on this project with me.

Lively

Welcome page
In Human Computer Interaction (INFO 3450), I took the lead on a project designing a virtual concert platform called Livley. During this pandemic, musicians have missed performing and listeners have missed connecting with artists. Through our interviews, we found out that current streaming platforms lack a feeling of connection between artists and listeners, and they also overcomplicate the technical setup. We wanted to make a platform where artists can talk to audience members, learn quickly without frustration, and customize their environment for a personal touch. We used figma to prototype our design, which you can check out here. Our group received between 95% and 100% on every part of this project!

Thanks to Stephen Yang, Danni Ji, Kepler Despinos, for working on this project with me.

Portfolio

This portfolio website is a project of it's own to me because every part of it is my own work. From drawing the lemon background and editing photos, to the design, the HTML and CSS, and the JavaScript and animations. The site is even hosted on a virtual machine that I helped set up. I intentionally used no frameworks or plugins so I could learn how to do CSS animations, make image galleries with only JavaScript, and much more. This was definitley a challenge, but I learned so much about the entire process of creating a website!
